In recognition of his work in developing and delivering impactful and lasting solutions to the challenges of poverty and injustice towards marginalised rural women in Pakistan, LUMS alumnus and CEO of Kaarvan Crafts Foundation, Danish Jabbar Khan, MBA 2005 was invited by His Royal Highness (HRH) Prince of Wales at his British Asian Trust’s Annual Dinner 2017.
A man practically standing and working for Women Economic Empowerment in Pakistan at the grass root level, Danish and his team’s restless endeavors and commitment for the cause became the prime mover for Kaarvan's acknowledgment within Pakistan and internationally.
Danish was accompanied by one of the alumnus of his foundation, a woman who mounted from the socio economic miseries of life to a woman of pride and resilience. At the event, she also shared her story of how the training programme at Kaarvan became the medium for her exceptional revise.
This non-profit organisation has been working since 2004 in light of the economic freedom and parity for women of low-income communities with over 14,000 trainees and several success stories across rural Punjab and KPK now. Kaarvan aims to vitalize women with skills to set out in the local economy as well as supplement them with business potentials and market linkages. Danish took charge of this social enterprise in 2013 and mobilised unprecedented change through his inspirational leadership.
This dinner took place in February where the Founder and the President of British Asian Trust HRH the Prince of Wales and HRH the Duchess of Cornwall attended the event alongside several of the Trust’s ambassadors, trustees and supporters. Danish spoke about Kaarvan’s persistent exertions to strengthen women’s capacities for income generation and how Kaarvan is striving to equip them with skills to pursue dignified livelihoods and adapt changes that aid their needs. Furthermore, Prince Charles reassured of his Trust’s continuous support to uplift the lives of the marginalised women in Pakistan, saying, “Kaarvan is a remarkable charity that my trust is honored to work with”.
For the influence it is creating for women economic empowerment, Kaarvan was identified, as a High Impact Organisation by The British Asian Trust in 2015. Since then the two organisations have partnered to scale up the engagement at a grass roots level, enabling people to truly unlock their potential and voice the cause through international campaigns, like #giveagirlafuture and Mind, Body & Sew, where the work of Kaarvan was also supported, among many, by the gifted BBC News Presenter, Asad Ahmad and the inspirational Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan.
