LUMS alumnus, Danish Jabbar Khan (MBA 2005) joined the Karvaan Craft Foundation as the CEO in 2013. This is a social enterprise that promises to work for the economic liberation of women. Their belief is that economic, social or personal growth cannot take place until gender disparity is eliminated from this society. In order to eradicate gender disparity, Kaarvan is providing opportunities to earn a dignified living for women all over Pakistan since 2004
The organisation till date has mobilised and trained over 13,000 females in 939 villages in Punjab and KPK and 4,550 females have been trained in over 175 villages in Punjab in the last three years.
In 2015, The British Asian Trust under the President-ship of Prince Charles also acknowledged their work and recognized Kaarvan as a High Impact Organisation contributing to the Women Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Sector in Pakistan.
Here’s what Danish had to say about how his experience at LUMS helped him in making Kaarvan a success:
“My training at LUMS is the key to unlock potential. It has been an exciting journey for an artist to get onto the business bandwagon, and then translating it all in social development, with a mission to change the economic realities of the women in the remotest of villages of the country. For a graduate from NCA with a completely artistic perspective, LUMS was a diametrically opposite experience, one that is deeply rooted in practicality. It’s the ‘outward looking approach’, developed at LUMS, that I consider is the key in my journey in creating and scaling-up impact that in 3 years’ time, Kaarvan Crafts Foundation has become the leader in providing the skills trainings to females in rural Punjab. It is my experience at LUMS that taught me how to make the dream ...a reality!”
