It was a joyous occasion as the academic achievements of the Class of 2017 were acknowledged by LUMS, in the midst of their proud parents and teachers, at the Graduate Night 2017 held on July 7, a night before the Convocation 2017 ceremony.
The graduate night dinner is a LUMS tradition, organised to laud the fine academic performance of the graduating class amidst faculty, family, food and fun. The gathering also gives the graduates the opportunity to get together with fellow students and faculty one last time before the convocation.
The Master of Ceremony for the event, Dean of Student Affairs at LUMS, Yasir Hashmi welcomed the students, parents and faculty. Vice Chancellor LUMS, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi addressed the gathering and appreciated the hard work of the graduates and congratulated the parents and faculty members for their part in the academic success of the high achievers. "Today, we celebrate those who have excelled academically, demonstrating the potent combination of brilliance, discipline, hard work and the ability to get up, when down. It is a recognition that you will carry with you for the rest of your life, proudly listing it in every document that you compile about yourself. What is more important, however, is the discipline of hard work and an attitude to pursue excellence that has now become a way of life for you," he said.
Mr. Hashmi also called upon the President of the Student Council 2017, Ahmed Murtaza to share his thoughts on his LUMS journey.
High achievers from the class of 2017, received recognition in form of the National Management Foundation (NMF) medals, corporate medals, and deans’ honour list plaques from Dr. Naqvi and Mr. Shahid Hussain, Member of the LUMS Board of Trustees and NMF.
The graduating class of 2017 was also welcomed to the LUMS Alumni Network by the Alumni Relations Office team, who introduced them to the functions of the Office, the activities it conducts, the benefits it offers and ways to stay connected to their alma mater. The Office had also constructed a special wall for the students where they could share their thoughts on graduating which received some very emotional responses from the reminiscing graduates.
The conferring of awards and the Alumni Relations Office activities were followed by dinner and a musical performance by the LUMS Music Society. The rhythm of music and the rendition of familiar tunes by juniors provided the perfect ending to a nostalgic, yet euphoric night.
