LUMS Department of Mathematics Collaborates with SDSB to Offer the 'Computational Finance' Minor

The Department of Mathematics at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), LUMS is proud to announce the launch of a new minor, 'Computational Finance' for the BS Mathematics programme in collaboration with the Suelman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) starting from Spring 2019. This is in line with the LUMS vision to offer a diversity of fields to open broader prospects for its students. 

The Minor in Computational 
Finance will provide students with the theoretical understanding and practical skills to formulate, implement and evaluate models used by the financial sector to structure transactions, manage risk and construct investment strategies. The SDSB and SBASSE jointly offer the minor as a single platform to leverage the students’ Mathematical 'talents', harness their skills and prepare for a highly sought-after career in Quantitative Finance. 


The students completing the minor will be able to pursue careers in the following areas:

i) Risk Management: Insurance (Life/Non-Life), Enterprise Risk Management, Underwriting, Actuarial Sciences, Bank Treasury Risk Management

ii) Corporate Finance: Investment Banking, E-Government, Credit Rating, Structures Products 

iii) Investment Management: Financial Engineer, Optimization, Algorithmic Trading, Portfolio Management, Financial Analyst, Equity Quant Analyst, Security Trader, Fund Management

iv) Financial Advisory Services

The minor will also prepare students for higher education in Quantitative Finance.
