Dr. Fozia Parveen, Postdoctoral Fellow and Adjunct Faculty, Centre for Water Informatics &Technology, at LUMS participated in ‘Pak-Afghan Stakeholder Consultation on Kabul River Basin’ organised by Leadership for Environment and Development (LEAD), Pakistan on October 16-17, 2019 in Dubai. LEAD is an independent policy think tank that focuses on policy research, public policy engagement, and leadership development in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.

This meeting was attended by representatives from Afghanistan and Pakistan, and was a follow-up to two such meetings held previously. Speaking of her experience at the consultation meeting, Dr. Fozia said, "The meeting gave me a chance to interact with academics from Afghanistan for the first time and there were discussions on the possibility to take research collaborations, a very good direction for both countries to solve our regional problems. It also made me understand the complexity associated with transboundary basin and the policy directions both countries need to take."

Dr. Fozia was also a part of the panel on ‘Kabul River’s Integrated Economy Model: Looking at Strategic, Social and Environmental Benefits’ on the second day of the workshop and shared her insight as well as reservations on the proposition.
