Physics Faculty Delivers Lecture on “Enriching Physics Through Innovative Experiments” at PIEAS

Friday, December 14, 2018

Dr. Muhammad Sabieh Anwar, Associate Professor, Physics Department, at Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) delivered a seminar on, “Enriching Physics Through Innovative Experiments” on December 05, 2018 at Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS).

In this presentation, he exemplified how non-traditional experiments performed inside the classroom and the laboratory can be used to enliven physics, recreate historic Nobel-prize winning experiments, teach data analysis, and orient students towards an enjoyable experience in experimental physics. He highlighted the philosophy of conducting laboratory experiments in which practical work is not a handmaiden to theory, rather has a life of its own, propelling creativity and exploration. Dr. Anwar also showed how using the digital camera and miniature sensors can help.

Dr. Anwar, an Associate Professor of Physics at LUMS and General Secretary of Khwarizmi Science Society, holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Oxford and was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests encompass spintronics, magnetism and optics. He has published around fifty research articles in international journals including Science and Physical Review Letters. He is a recipient of the TWAS Medal in Physics 2008 and the National innovation Prize 2015.
