The Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education (SOE) Research Committee has initiated a Brown Bag Seminar Series, which serves as a platform for faculty and aspiring researchers and academics to share their research with an SOE audience. The sessions are held on a weekly or fortnightly basis and are well attended by SOE faculty and staff.
The Brown Bag Series was inaugurated by Dr. Tahir Andrabi, Dean SOE, with a presentation on his current research project on the Beaconhouse School System (BSS). SOE Assistant Professors, Dr. Gulab Khan and Dr. Qaisar Khan presented next on their upcoming research project titled, “New Teacher Evaluation System,” with Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan (AKESP).
PhD candidates, Zahra Mansoor and Sameem Siddiqui were also invited by Dean SOE to present. Zahra Mansoor, Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford University presented on her current work with Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development (QAED), which explores the effectiveness of a range of non-monetary recognition interventions in eliciting teacher effort. Sameem Siddiqui, Department of Economics, University of California, San Diego presented on education service delivery in a high refugee setting (Jordan).
The 6th Brown Bag Seminar was held on October 23, 2018 at SOE, where Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS, presented his research on ‘Re-conceptualizing Student Evaluations of Teaching (SET) from Outputs to Inputs.’ The presentation was followed by a Q&A session and a discussion on the possibilities of a Centre for Teaching and Learning at SOE.
