On November 23, 2016, students of Mr. Zafar Kalanauri's Legal Aid Clinic class at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) visited the Lahore High Court for a study tour.
The students visited the courts of two different Honourable Judges namely Justice Shahid Hameed Dar and Justice Shahid Waheed of the Lahore High Court and witnessed criminal proceedings pertaining to the grant of a bail petition in a corruption case. The students then had an interactive discussion and Q/A session with the Honourable Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court, and asked questions on how the relationship between the Judiciary and the Bar Council could be improved, what changes could be introduced to ensure inexpensive and expeditious justice, and how these changes could be institutionalised.
The students were then led on a tour of the Gardens and Judges' Lounge and were given a history of the Lahore High Court by the Honourable Chief Justice. The students were also given souvenirs to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Lahore High Court. Mr. Khursheed A. Rizvi, Registrar of the Lahore High Court also accompanied them.
The students appreciated the efforts of Mr. Zafar Kalanauri, Advocate Supreme Court and member of the Adjunct Faculty of SAHSOL, for providing the future lawyers of Pakistan a wonderful learning experience at the Lahore High Court.
