The LUMS Qatar Alumni Chapter held its very first alumni meetup on Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Hilton Hotel in Doha overlooking the sea line. As the first official get-together since the formation of the chapter, this meetup was aimed at bringing the Qatar alumni under one roof and providing them with the opportunity to network and connect, thereby strengthening the LUMS community in the area.
The event started with a short presentation by the Chapter’s Executive Council covering a range of topics including introductions, demographics and whereabouts of chapter members, objectives, and the future direction of the chapter. As the evening continued, the alumni networked in small groups over dinner and discussions ranged from how the alumni had started off in their respective career trajectories and how their time in Qatar has been to various recollections of LUMS experiences.
The event was attended by a number of alumni all of whom are working in reputable organisations in Doha such as Ooredo, Nokia, PwC, Al Tamimi & Company, Calriba, Vodafone and more. The gathering was particularly happy and proud to learn about the venture of a fellow alumnus, Khawaja Jaffer Abbas, BSc 2011, who is working on a startup called Suncart that aims to provide an online grocery platform for residents in Qatar with the motto ‘Happiness Delivered’.
The evening concluded with a group picture and the chapter planning to increase the frequency of their reunions.
