Islamabad United Team including their captain Misbah-ul-Haq and Coach Dean Jones visited LUMS on September 23, 2016 as part of their campaign for Pakistan Super League (PSL) Trophy Celebrations. The guests were welcomed by Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, LUMS Vice Chancellor, LUMS staff and the Sports at LUMS (SLUMS) society representatives.

Islamabad United is conducting these trophy tours at Pakistan's major Universities till September 26, 2016. These events are a great venue for dialogue and interaction between the most ardent of cricket fans and their cricketing heroes. The purpose of the tour is also to take the first ever PSL Trophy, the winning prize of Pakistan's first ever national franchise level sporting competition, to all parts of the country as a gesture to appreciate the fans' support for making Pakistan Super League a roaring success.

The enthusiastic attendants presented many questions to Pakistan’s most successful test captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who was recently presented the Test Mace for securing number 1 ranking by the ICC chief executive, David Richardson. Misbah-ul-Haq stressed the importance of education for athletes and said, “We need players who are not only great athletes but also well rounded leaders. I urge top-level universities like LUMS to provide further opportunities to players who show promise in the sport and groom them. This will produce athletes who are better advocates of the sport as well as the nation.”

Islamabad United (ISLU) is a Pakistani professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team that competes in Pakistan Super League. The team was formed in 2015 as a result of the formation of the Pakistan Super League by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The franchise is owned by Leonine Global Investments through its sports entity, Leonine Global Sports. It was previously owned by LUMS MBA graduates, Ali Naqvi and Amna Tirmizi Naqvi.

The team is currently captained by Pakistan’s most successful test captain Misbah-ul-Haq and coached by former Australian player Dean Jones, while the former Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram is the director of the team and Tauseef Ahmad is the Assistant Coach.

The excited LUMS community also got a chance to get their photographs taken with Misbah-ul-Haq and Dean Jones. The guests were then given a tour of the LUMS sports facilities.
