LUMS Faculty Member Publishes Book on Communist Movement in Colonial India

Tuesday, April 21, 2020

Dr. Ali Raza, Associate Professor at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS) at LUMS, has recently published a book titled Revolutionary Pasts: Communist Internationalism in Colonial India (Cambridge University Press, March 2020).

In this book, Dr. Ali Raza traces the history of the communist movement in colonial India through the lives and struggles of Indian revolutionaries. Inspired by the ideals of Communist Internationalism, these revolutionaries dedicated themselves to a struggle that transcended borders and sought for the colonised world a future liberated from both capitalism and colonialism.

In narrating these stories, Dr. Ali Raza highlights the ways in which the project of Communist Internationalism influenced struggles for national liberation, rendered possible the imagination of new futurities and potentials, and offered new understandings of the history of communism and decolonisation.
