Jehangir Kazi, LUMS BS Computer Science (CS) student at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) has been offered a full-time position as a Software Engineer at Google, Japan. This offer, that is due to start from 2018, after Kazi graduates from LUMS, comes after his recently concluded internship at the Google office in Tokyo.
Kazi worked in the Maps (Local Discovery) Team from June to September 2017. He claims that positions like these are well within the reach of many LUMS students, provided they work hard and focus on strengthening their core CS skills.
Kazi expressed his gratitude to his instructors from the LUMS CS faculty, who have been his advisors and mentors during the past year. "Dr. Fareed Zaffar and Dr. Junaid Haroon Siddiqui have been instrumental in me getting this opportunity. They have guided me at every step and exercised all their resources to give me a shot at Google."
While talking about his experience at Google, Kazi said, “I had a wonderful experience and my entire team was very supportive. I worked with people from a lot of different countries and cultures and every single person truly wanted me to get the best out of my time there. I was able to experience not only the engineering side of Google's culture but was also encouraged to participate in TGIFs, weekend trips and many other activities.”
Google accepts interns from all over the world through a highly competitive selection process. Interns at Google work on much of the same high-level cutting-edge projects such as Android and Search as full-time employees, and code written by interns is fully incorporated into the Google code base. Google also offers its interns a wide variety of tools to learn from. These range from online courses to talks and workshops from both Googlers and guests.
Kazi is the second student from the CS department at SBASSE to have received this offer. Naina Raisinghani received a similar offer for a full-time position as a Software Engineer at Google, Sydney for fall 2015 after her internship at the office in Sydney, Australia.
