Three faculty members from the Department of History at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences have been awarded prestigious fellowships for the year 2020-21.
Dr. Waqar Zaidi, Associate Professor has been offered a Membership at the School of Social Science at the Institute of Advanced Studies, Princeton. The Institute was established in 1930 to bring together scholars from around the world to take cutting edge research into new directions. It currently has thirty permanent faculty and roughly two hundred members based at one of its four Schools: Historical Studies, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Social Science. Among its present and past faculty and members are 34 Nobel Laureates, 42 of the 60 Fields Medalists, and 18 of the 20 Abel Prize Laureates, as well as many MacArthur Fellows and Wolf Prize winners. During the fellowship, Dr. Zaidi will work on his new research project on the globalisation of civil aviation.
Dr. Shayan Rajani, Assistant Professor has been offered the Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship. The Wolf Humanities Center at the University of Pennsylvania awards five postdoctoral fellowships every year. It is committed to bringing together a broad interdisciplinary cohort of scholars working in the humanities. During the fellowship, he will be pursuing research on the central importance of leaving legacies in shaping the Mughal world.
Dr. Ali Usman Qasmi, Associate Professor has received the Stanford Humanities Center External Faculty Fellowship. Dr. Qasmi is one of the ten awardees from a competitive pool of 300 applicants. During the fellowship, he will be working on his upcoming monograph: The Idea of Citizenship in Pakistan.
