Overview

The SDSB PhD Management Programme offers a unique opportunity for higher studies in Organisational Behaviour, Operations Management, and Finance. The Programme has been designed to ensure that doctoral students have the full range of necessary research and teaching competencies, skills, and sufficient knowledge of their subject area essential for designing and executing research at the highest standards of academic excellence. It aims to do this by combining structured course work with supervised research study. Minimum Eligibility Criteria for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants must meet the minimum eligibility criteria in order to be considered for admission to the Graduate Programme. Meeting this criteria does not guarantee admission to the Graduate program.

Applicants are selected for admission to LUMS PhD Management programme based on the following factors:

  1. Academic Background
  2. Performance in the Admission Test
  3. Research Statement
  4. Two letters of Recommendation 
  5. Interview 

The Admissions Office will review applications to ensure requirements are being met. Shortlisted candidates will be called in for an interview, after which the final decision will be taken.

 

Academic Requirements for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants will be assessed on the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 18 years of education leading to an Undergraduate and/or Graduate degrees recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan in Management and related disciplines such as Business, Economics, Commerce, and Accounting (applicants with degrees in other disciplines may be required to do additional non‐credit coursework after admission).
  • Undergraduate and Graduate degrees: Min. 3.0 CGPA (or 70% marks)
  • Secondary and Higher Secondary School: Min. 70% marks (or equivalent)

Decisions on admission are made after careful evaluation of all applications. Evaluation for interview call is carried out based on a combination of factors such as academic track record, performance in GMAT/GRE (General), and work experience (if available).

Admission Test Requirement for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants are required to take Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) in order to be considered for admission. Applicants must have a “Minimum test score of 60th percentile in GMAT or GRE (General) equivalent”. No other admission test score will be considered valid Only GMAT/GRE (General) scores are valid and, hence, applicants with previous LMAT scores need to take the GMAT/GRE (General)

GMAT/GRE (General) is offered as a computer adaptive test worldwide. Apart from official test scores that LUMS will require directly from Pearson or Educational Testing Service (ETS), USA, applicants must submit or mail a copy of the unofficial GMAT/GRE (General) scores as soon as they take the test. The LUMS code for receiving GMAT/GRE (General) scores from Pearson and ETS is 0679. For further details on GMAT and GRE (General), please log on to www.mba.com  and www.ets.org respectively. The deadline to take GMAT/GRE (General) is March 9, 2018.

Notes:

  • GMAT/GRE (General) taken more than five years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid.
  • If applicant has taken more than one test, the best score will be considered for application evaluation
  • Availability of valid GMAT/GRE (General) score will be mandatory for submission of online admission application
  • Applicants who are admitted to, and join, the PhD Management programme will get a refund of one GMAT/GRE (General) registration fee.

 

 

Supporting Documents Requirement for Fall 2018 Admissions


Applicants must complete and submit their online application form on or before March 15, 2018; 5:00 pm (PST). The application form can be accessed online at http://admissions.lums.edu.pk. In addition, all applicants are required to submit all supporting documents to the LUMS Admissions Office on or before March 16, 2018.

  • The application processing fee of $71

Payment Procedure

International applicants are required to make a payment for the Application Processing Fee through a Bank Draft drawn in favour of Lahore University of Management Sciences. For further details regarding Fee payment options  Click here

Proof of Payment

Applicants are required to send original Bank Draft along with all other required documents as ONE package on or before the stipulated deadline. Applicants must print and paste the “Mailing label” on the envelope containing their supporting documents before sending it to the LUMS Admissions Office.

Interview Performance

A merit ranking for interview short listing is established on academic performance, work experience (if any) and GMAT/GRE (General) scores of the candidates. Only short-listed candidates are called for interviews.

Research Statement

Applicants are required to submit a well-developed research proposal. The PhD dissertation will require substantive empirical work and is intended to extend knowledge on a particular subject of interest to the management academic community.

FAQs

A Foreign national who is not of Pakistani origin and does not have a Pakistani passport/NICOP/CNIC is eligible to apply to LUMS under its International Student Programme. Applicants holding dual nationality out of which one is Pakistani are not eligible to apply through LUMS International Student Programme.

In order to study at LUMS, foreign nationals must obtain a “Study Visa” from the Pakistani Embassy/Consulate working in their country. The Pakistani Embassy/Consulate will only issue a study visa for students’ stay at LUMS upon receipt of Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan’s “No Objection Certificate” and Clearance from the Ministry of Interior, Pakistan.

For the issuance of Visa, students must submit the following documents to the LUMS Admissions Office through postal mail/ courier service by the stipulated deadline. These documents are mandatory for the processing of visa application:

I.Signed copy of Admission Offer Letter

II.Payment of Tuition/Hostel dues through a bank Draft (if any)

III.Completely filled “Student’s Information Sheet” for the issuance of NOC from the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan. 

a.       Note: No Objection Certificate (NOC) is issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan; which is a mandatory requirement for LUMS enrollment and Visa processing.

IV.Three (3) copies of completely filled and duly signed “Visa Form” (all pages) to get necessary visa clearance from the Ministry of Interior, Pakistan.

a.       Note: Please carefully read instructions given in the Visa application form and send it to LUMS through courier service by the due deadline. Form is available on the Ministry of Interior’s website (www.interior.gov.pk ). The form must be duly filled in with contacts/addresses of the applicant both in Home country and Pakistan.

V.Six (6) Original Photographs.

VI.Complete copy of Passport.

VII.Any other document required by the MOI for the issuance of Visa.

VIII.Academic Records-Certified Photocopies of:

IX.Secondary School (O levels/ 10th Grade or any Equivalent Degree).

X.Post Secondary (A Levels/ IB/ American High School or any equivalent degree).

XI.all academic transcripts/certificates (Secondary, Post Secondary, Bachelors, Masters or any other qualification).

XII.Copy of certificate of provisional grade point average.

XIII.Copy of English Proficiency Certificate.

XIV.Nomination/Recommendation Letter from University.

XV.Copy of Medical Certificate.

  1. Application for admission to the PhD Management programme is an online process (there is no paper based application to fill out or mail).
  2. After creating an account and accessing the online admission application you may then begin to complete your application.
  3. You can work on your application at any time and submit it when you are ready. Please note that we expect applicants to adhere to the deadlines stated on the LUMS website.
  4. You can "track" the receipt of supporting documents submitted.
  5. The earlier you submit your application the sooner you can learn about the receipt of these materials.
  6. After submission you may print a copy for your own use.

GMAT/GRE scores are valid for five years. GMAT/GRE taken five years before the admission deadline will not be considered valid.

GMAT/ GRE score is compulsory for submission of online application. You must submit/mail the copy of unofficial GMAT/ GRE score report as soon as you take the test. However, the official GMAT/ GRE scores can be submitted later.

You can send your GMAT/GRE un-official score report along with your supporting documents.

We recommend that at least one should be from a supervisor in your professional career. The other letter can be from a faculty member who has had a reasonable opportunity to evaluate you academically.

No, there are no age restrictions for admission to the PhD Management Programme.

No, our system for reviewing applications is completely online so we must receive your application electronically using our online application service.

Admission decisions will only be communicated via courier service. Regretfully, we are unable to provide the final application status by telephone or e-mail inquiry.

The admission process is a well deliberated and thorough process. Each year we receive a large number of outstanding applications. Unfortunately, all of them do not qualify because of the limited number of available seats. The decision regarding admission is final.

If your application is unsuccessful you will also receive a letter informing you of this. Due to the volume of applications the University receives; it is not possible to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.
