PhD Management

Overview

WHY CONSIDER A PHD IN MANAGEMENT FROM LUMS?

Our PhD in Management Programme trains scholars to test and push the boundaries of management theories, and contribute to management education and practice. The Programme develops leaders for institutions that educate professional managers, while training scholars to create and disseminate knowledge and provide professional advice. Our graduates actively contribute in creating a knowledge-based economy. The Programme offers rewarding careers in academia and consulting, in Pakistan and abroad. We offer concentrations in organizational behaviour and strategy, operations management, and finance.

The Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) was ranked as the number one business management school in Pakistan and among the top 100 universities in Asia by the QS World University Rankings for 2019. It is also the first business school in Pakistan to have been accredited by the prestigious American Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International). SDSB has built its reputation on outstanding teaching and research by its world-class faculty, who have been trained at some of the best business schools in the world.

Our PhD management Programme prepares you for educational leadership, global exposure, and to create a significant impact through top quality research, teaching, and consulting. We believe that quality research demands discipline, rigorous training and specialisation and interdisciplinary intellectual inspiration. The LUMS PhD in Management is designed to be completed in four (4) years. The Programme is comparable, in academic rigour and research quality, to doctoral Programmes in the best business schools globally. Research on modern institutions, economies and societies requires scholars to understand both the local and the global context. Our PhD Programme provides exposure to international research and best practices, while focusing on issues, people and institutions in a specialised local context.

The Programme provides thorough academic grounding in modern management theories, models, and research methodology through rigorous coursework. The coursework prepares PhD students to understand the current state of research knowledge and identify research questions that have a social and economic impact for their own original research. Students identify innovative research problems, conduct ground-breaking research, and share their findings with an international community of researchers. Our Programme fosters an interest in issues of current concern in our complex transnational business and society. Our PhDs conduct research that is both theoretical and empirical; we acknowledge the importance of scientific rigour as well as the necessity of being empirically relevant.
