Executive MBA

Overview

The Executive MBA Programme is designed for mid-career managers and entrepreneurs who are keen to take on greater challenges and make an impact on the productivity of their organizations. These individuals can leverage their rich work experience through this world-class management Programme. The curriculum has been designed to provide both depth and breadth of a rigorous, distinguished management Programme. While starting with the fundamentals of each functional area, the courses quickly step up to advanced levels in order to maximize learning of a group of highly experienced managers. This helps participants develop an understanding at the operational and strategic level in each business area.

The EMBA Programme has gone through major structural changes in the past year to develop better curriculum for executives. 4 hours’ sessions/day (two courses running at a time) were replaced by teaching 3, 90 min sessions/day (three courses running at a time. The structure is based on 16 sessions of 90 minutes each.

Financial Accounting has been reintroduced in the EMBA curriculum based on its relevance to the Programme. A curriculum comparison with 10 top business schools of the world identified the need for the change in curriculum.

FUNDAMENTALS FIRST APPROACH

LUMS takes a ‘fundamentals first’ approach to its Executive MBA curriculum. Students take courses that provide a strong foundation for management in different roles.

APPLY SKILLS CONCURRENTLY

Executive MBA students can immediately put into practice the concepts learnt in class since they work full-time while earning their degrees.

DISTANCE LEARNING

The Executive MBA participants have to stay connected with the faculty through distance learning while off campus. This connection is facilitated through the Information System Technology (IST) Department at LUMS which centrally supports the LUMS Learning Management System (LMS). The LMS allows each participant a dedicated academic resource centre on the web. Participants have access to several e-modules, course related activities and resources. The LUMS code for receiving GMAT/GRE (General) scores from Pearson and ETS is 0679.

Under the circumstances, you can apply to SDSB Executive MBA Programme without test scores being submitted (if you haven’t taken the test yet). You may then be asked to appear for an interview followed by a conditional acceptance if you are successful. The condition will require obtaining a minimum test score. Once, test centres are functioning, you will need to sit for the test and attain the minimum test score required by the University.

For further details on GMAT/GRE/ NTS GAT (General), please log on to www.mba.comwww.ets.org and nts.org.pk respectively.

We recommend that at least one should be from a supervisor in your professional career. The other letter can be from a faculty member who has had a reasonable opportunity to evaluate you academically.

It will give you the strategic management skills to take on new responsibilities at work, while continuing to contribute in the workplace during your studies, applying new theories and approaches, and doing projects on your business.

The Executive MBA participants are about six years more experienced, on average, than the traditional MBAs. In addition, the Executive MBA Programme has been designed to offer the skills required for those about to enter the senior management ranks of their organizations, rather than in-depth study in a specific functional area.

Please submit your official GMAT/GRE/NTS GAT (General) score report with your supporting documents, however you can send in your GMAT/GRE un-official score report along with your supporting documents

The Executive MBA programme is designed for people who have already taken the first steps in their career. We therefore do not offer specific "majors" since these concentrations are generally viewed as a way for business students to prepare themselves for entry-level positions. Instead our focus is to offer courses to those already in management positions, in order to enable them to progress to higher managerial and leadership ranks. Our training is therefore geared more toward the understanding of broad management and leadership skills.

Yes, in fact significant learning will take place with distance learning tools such as supervised chats, discussion boards and e-mail conferencing etc.

Yes, you can apply, but you need to prove to the Admissions Committee that you can cope with the academic and intellectual side of the coursework.

Accommodation facilities are available for all participants.

We strongly discourage missing any course; however, we do understand that this situation might arise during Executive MBA. We may accommodate a participant in this regard but cannot guarantee that the individual will graduate on time.

No, there are no age restrictions for admission to the EMBA Programme.

A merit ranking for interview short listing is established on academic performance, work experience and admission test score of the candidates. Those who qualify this comparative ranking are called in for an interview.

During the interview, the Admissions Committee tries to assess the applicant's communication skills, managerial potential, thinking ability, subject knowledge and level of awareness of general issues. Final decision regarding admission will be taken after the interview.

In truly exceptional circumstances, the Admissions Committee may grant a deferral. All requests should be made in writing and will be reviewed on a case to case basis.

It is highly recommended to fill out the application form carefully. Changes cannot be made after the submission of online application. In sheer need an applicant can send the updated information to helpdeskao@lums.edu.pk with the specific header "Change in Application Form".

Admission decision will only be communicated through courier service; however, you can also check your application status through your online account. Regretfully, we are unable to provide information regarding your application status by telephone or e-mail.

The admission process is a well deliberated and thorough process. Each year we receive a large number of outstanding applications. Unfortunately, all of them do not qualify because of the limited number of available seats. The decision regarding admission is final.

If your application is unsuccessful you will also receive a letter informing you of this. Due to the volume of applications the University receives; it is not possible to provide feedback on unsuccessful applications.
