Alwi Shihab, Indonesian President’s Envoy to the Middle East & OIC, Dr. Sugiharto, Ex-Minister for State owned Enterprises in Indonesia, Chairman Pratama Capital along with other senior members from the academia and industry of Indonesia visited Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on December 20, 2017.
Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Vice Chancellor LUMS, Dr. Jawad Syed, Dean, Suleman Dawood School of Business and representatives from the Office of Marketing and Communications welcomed the delegation. The visit was organised by Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT).
Dr. Naqvi briefed the delegation about LUMS, its five schools and the programmes it offers. The presentation was followed by a general discussion chaired by the Vice Chancellor with participation from the LUMS faculty members present on the occasion and dignitaries from the industry including Badar Khushnood, Co-Founder & Partner Bramerz; Syed Ali, CEO, 7 Vals; Ameen Ansari, President, Stewart Pakistan; Sajid Saleem Minhas, Central Chairman, Delta Garments and Mubashar N. Butt, CEO, Bodymedia International. Collaboration opportunities in the sectors of education and industry at the institutional level between Pakistan and Indonesia were also explored.
Mr. Shihab commented at the occasion, “I am speechless and impressed with what LUMS is doing in the field of education, and that such a state-of-the-art international standard university exists in Lahore. Our aim of visiting LUMS is to strengthen ties and understanding in the field of education. I will be happy to tell the Ministry of Education, Indonesia that such a high quality research focused institute exists in the country. I’m glad to share that Indonesian people share similar values of tolerance, respect and diversity that we have seen at LUMS and these are the values that all Muslim countries need to uphold in the current state of fanaticism.”
Other Indonesian members present on the occasion included Mr. Iskandar, Pratama, the largest state owned oil and gas company of Indonesia; Mr. Faisal Bawazeer, Shareholder/Global Managing Director, Indo Food Ltd., the largest food conglomerate in Indonesia; Mr. Andri Cahyadi, Exploitation Energy Indonesia; Mr. Bintoro, Sritex Textiles, one of the largest textile/garment group in Indonesia; Mr. Destyawan, WIKA Indonesia, second largest state owned infrastructure development company of Indonesia; Mr. and Mrs. Budi, Sinar Agung Spare Part Manufacturing; Mr. Joko Santosa, Capital 89 and Mr. Zaki Mansoer, Islamic Development Bank.
