About the workshop
The workshop is aimed at faculty and post-doctoral students looking to initiate international collaborative projects and research programmes involving molecular dynamics (MD). Exceptional graduate students may also apply. The keynote speaker will start with a basic introduction of the field and historical developments covering multi-body interactions using Newton’s Equations of Motion, ergodic hypothesis, canonical ensembles, and chemical-bonding potentials and illustrate with examples from works on gases, liquid crystals and macromolecular assemblies how MD impacts all basic sciences. The science behind the MD software and analytical strategies based on matrix methods and network representations will be covered and supplemented with a short demonstration. A group discussion with participating faculty from Pakistani universities will showcase MD research and work towards the formation of a national focus group in this area.
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Shahid Masihuddin Khan did his PhD in Molecular Biophysics from Yale University; followed by postdoctoral training at Caltech. He was faculty at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (1986-2002) leaving as Professor of Physiology and Biophysics. He was one of the founding faculty member of the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (2007-12) as a senior Professor and the first Head of Biology (2008-10). He has been an established NIH investigator for over two decades and has served on several USA NIH, NSF and Pakistan HEC review panels. He has over 50 publications and several reviews/book chapters in leading international journals. He has applied and published on MD in his work since 2014.
