A seven-member delegation of British parliamentarians visited Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) on Monday, April 3, 2017. The delegation was welcomed by representatives from the Office of Marketing and Communications and General Administration Services.
Ms. Minhal Sheikh, Assistant Manager Marketing, Office of Marketing and Communications, briefed the delegation about LUMS, its four schools and the programmes it offers. The presentation was followed by a general discussion on promoting UK’s education system and future academic collaborations that could be explored at the institutional level between universities of Pakistan and UK.
This visit took place in conjunction with the 70th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence and establishment of diplomatic relations between UK and Pakistan as well as a manifestation of the close cooperative relations both the countries have always enjoyed.
The parliamentarians were highly enthusiastic towards addressing the current underlying issue of job placement of fresh graduates in Pakistan and were eager to promote cross cultural relationships between the two countries. Mr. Rehman Chishti, Member of Parliament for Gillingham and Rainham & Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Pakistan, commented, “We genuinely believe that LUMS is a high-profile research oriented academic institution. This visit surely facilitated towards gaining a broader perspective of the Pakistani higher education system. It is in our mutual interests to work together on a broad range of issues, from regional stability to education, development and culture.”
