Dr. Adam Zaman Chaudhry, Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), has published a research paper in Journal of Physics B (J. Phys. B). The paper was co-authored by Tan Da Yang and Gong Jiangbin from the National University of Singapore (NUS). The figure shown above was chosen to appear on the printed issue of J. Phys. B, issue 11, 2015.
The title of the paper is ‘Optimization of the environment for generating entanglement and spin squeezing’. Typically, the biggest hurdle in the large scale implementation of novel quantum technologies such as quantum computers, cryptography, etc. is the interaction between the quantum system and its environment. This interaction typically leads to the loss of the ‘quantumness’ of the quantum system. However, it has been found that some environments can have the opposite effect. Namely, they can actually generate useful quantum resources such as entanglement and spin squeezing. This work identifies which kind of environments are best at generating such quantum resources.
