Created in the name of former Sindh High Court Chief Justice and justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed Foundation has committed to sponsor a BA-LL.B student at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL), LUMS. The 5-year law programme, has been exclusively designed with the aim to allow the most brilliant minds to excel in the field of law in Pakistan.
The MOU between the foundation and LUMS was signed on Friday, September 4, 2015 at a ceremony held at LUMS. Attending the event on behalf of the Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed Foundation were foundation trustees, Mr. Salahuddin Ahmed and Mrs. Neelofar Sabihuddin Ahmed. The MOU was signed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sohail H. Naqvi on behalf of LUMS, while Head of Department of Law and Policy, Dr. Ali Qazilbash and Manager Fundraising, Ali Safdar Raja were also present at the event. Dr. Ali Qazilbash played a vital role in making this agreement possible. The initiative is an expedient stride forward in working towards the overall improvement of the legal industry in Pakistan.
A discussion about the need to improve legal education in the country through a better, research based curriculum at LUMS also took place at the event. Mr. Salahudin Ahmed shared that the foundation was very satisfied with the professionalism and proficiency of LUMS students thus far and was hopeful of the same in the future.
Both representatives of the Justice Sabihuddin Foundation were given a tour of the newly built Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law building by Dr. Qazilbash. The Foundation trustees expressed their desire to continue working with LUMS for an all-encompassing, strong legal system of Pakistan.
