The Career Services Office at LUMS held an informative session about Pakistan Stock Exchange Limited's (PSX) ‘National Investor Education and Awareness Programme' on November 8, 2019. The session was led by members of PSX to educate students about financial planning and stock market operations.
Sarmad Hussain, Regional Head Lahore PSX, commenced the session by focusing on the current stock market scenario and its position in Pakistan. He discussed CPEC, trade and its current impact on Pakistan’s stock market. He also highlighted the impact of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the economy; currently, around 3.1 million SMEs in Pakistan contribute to 40% of its GDP.
During the session, Mr. Hussain also shared information about the Pakistan Stock Exchange – how it works, the different participants involved, such as investors and brokers, and the precautionary measures that should be taken while investing. Mr. Hussain also emphasised the benefits of long-term investments.
The session concluded with a Question and Answer session, where attendees were able to clarify their queries and receive helpful tips about investing in the stock market.
