The Department of Electrical Engineering at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at LUMS held an informal conversation with Syed Babar Ali, LUMS Founding Pro Chancellor, on November 4, 2019. Syed Babar Ali’s conversation with female students, research assistants and the alumnae in attendance, encompassed the career and educational opportunities available for female engineering students, and what steps can be taken to make these opportunities more accessible.
The discussion focused on setting up a special fund for female students, to help them prepare for job interviews and attend out of city conferences. The issue of accessibility was also covered - it was highlighted that the SBASSE building is in need of a washroom for handicapped individuals. Female students further requested for an increase in the capacity of the daycare facility that is already available.
The School’s alumnae were also invited to share their success stories and their professional journey after graduation. Syed Babar Ali encouraged the students to continue working hard in order to succeed and help build the future of Pakistan. Dr. Shahid Masud, Dean SBASSE, also present at the event, said, “It is indeed heartening to see women contributing in so many ways in the operations and growth of the School of Science and Engineering.”
The conversation was hosted by Dr. Wala Saadeh, Assistant professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, with the support of Affan Anwar, Assistant Manager, Department of Electrical Engineering.
