The Centre for Business and Society (CBS) at the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) organised a customised training programme on Monitoring & Evaluation for the middle and senior level officers of the Merged Areas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (FATA) from July 15 to 18, 2019.
Managing and reporting performance is one of the key challenges of public administration. Faced with complex bottom lines and a multitude of professional and political pressures, managers in public sector organizations stand to benefit greatly from sophisticated monitoring and evaluation (M&E) systems. The Monitoring & Evaluation Training Programme helped the middle and senior level officers (civil servants) of Govt. of KPK to understand the strategic importance of M&E systems, mechanisms for designing M&E systems and the practical considerations for creating and adopting M&E practices in government organizations.
The 4-day programme, imparted technical knowledge regarding M&E, also focused on creating a shared learning space where the participants and the instructors learnt from each other. Moreover, through case studies, group discussion and team tasks, the participants also gained valuable insights into cross functional collaborations. The learning objectives and areas covered in this customised programme included; Designing M&E Frameworks, Developing Performance Indicators, Conducting Evaluation Studies, Reporting M&E Data and Strategic Implications of M&E Systems.
This training programme was part of the Capacity Building Interventions for Officers of the Merged Areas (FATA) of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Governance and Policy Project (GPP) funded through Multi Donor Trust Fund, administered by World Bank and implemented by P&D Department, FATA.
This training was successfully designed and delivered by SDSB faculty, Dr. Mohsin Bashir and Dr. Muhammad Azfar Nisar, Program Director and Co-programme Director respectively. Moreover, some of the training sessions were also taught by other SDSB faculty including, Dr. Ayesha Masood (Assistant Professor). The training programme was highly appreciated by the senior management of P&D Department, FATA. Mr. Raymond Muhula from World Bank was also present at the closing ceremony of the training programme. He is the team leader for Governance and Policy Project (GPP) here in Pakistan, and leading this project in KPK, FATA and Balochistan. He expressed that through such projects, we are keen to strengthen the Monitoring & Evaluation systems in the government departments.
They were also of the view to get conducted more training programmes at LUMS for capacity building of Government Official of Merged Areas Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in future.
