Individuals from the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FCCI) visited LUMS on April 4, 2019, with the aim to get an understanding of the work that LUMS does and the facilities that make it unique from other universities. The delegation also discussed possibilities of collaboration with LUMS.
The delegates from FCCI included Mr. Ahmad Hassan, CEO Chenab Engineering Works and Chairman CPEC and R&D Standing Committee; Dr. Khurram Tariq, Director Center for Development; Mr. Mujtaba Hassan, member FCCI and Director Chenab Engineering and LUMS graduate, Mr. Ali Hassan, coordinator FCCI R&D Department.
Representing LUMS were Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Shahid Masud, Dean Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE); Dr. Adnan Khan, Dean Office of Student Affairs; Dr. Turab Hussain, Associate Professor, and Dr. Mohammad Usman Khan, Adjunct Faculty, Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS); Dr. Rabia Malik, Assistant Professor Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education (SOE); Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, and Ms. Minhal Sheikh, Deputy Manager Marketing, Office of Advancement.
The delegates were given an overview of LUMS by Ms. Sheikh, who also apprised them of the recent accomplishments of the University. Later, Dr. Ahmad briefed the guests about the new directions that LUMS aims to go forward in and elaborated on how the University is planning to achieve its targets. Furthermore, he also spoke about the broader impact on the country of all these interventions.
The guests were impressed by the future aims and initiatives of LUMS and assured that they would also like to contribute to the growth of the University. Mr. Hassan shared how FCCI works and the main goals that they would like to achieve. In case of the Faisalabad industry he said that it is trying to grow but is facing a lack of directive and expressed the hope that LUMS would help give FCCI a new direction in building a new policy because of its experience in working with the government on policy-level initiatives.
Dr. Hussain spoke about some of the policies LUMS has devised for the government and shared the hope that they will be implemented soon. Dr. Masud shared that LUMS is already working very closely with the industry and will surely help the FCCI solve their problems.
Dr. Tariq added that there are certain companies in Faisalabad that would like to increase their potential and compete with the international market for which they needed LUMS support.
The faculty assured the FCCI delegation of assistance. It was also decided that that FCCI will provide projects to LUMS which both the organisation and University will collaborate on.
After the discussion, the guests were given a tour of LUMS, which included stops at the Physics Lab, the Chemistry Lab and the National Incubation Centre.
