Dr. Waqar Zaidi, Assistant Professor of History at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences will begin a new collaborative interdisciplinary research project on the international governance of Artificial Intelligence at the Future of Humanity Institute, University of Oxford in July 2018.
Dr. Zaidi's current research interests include early Cold War discourses on atomic energy and the atomic bomb and internationalist movements in the early Cold War period. More broadly, he is interested in the relationship(s) between technology and international relations in the twentieth century. He has an MSc and PhD in the History of Science, Technology and Medicine from Imperial College London.
The Future of Humanity Institute (FHI) is a multidisciplinary research institute working on Existential Risk. FHI conducts research to ensure a long flourishing future for humanity. It hopes to bring tools such as mathematics, philosophy, and social sciences to answer important questions about humanity and its future.
