Session on Leadership with Mr. Per Rud

Suleman Dawood School of Business – LUMS, in collaboration with National Incubation Center (NIC) and Human Resources Department LUMS, organized a session on leadership with Mr.Per Rud, Senior Vice President & Head of Aftersales (Marine and Powerplants) at MAN Energy Solutions.

 

MAN Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, is one of the world’s leading provider of power engineering solutions. Mr. Per Rud's portfolio oversees sales worth approximately 1.3 Billion Euros and supervision of 3500 employees worldwide. His scope of work includes strategic business planning and growth, development of 3-5 year business plans, defining targets, supply chain implementation and process management worldwide, staff development, policy making and budgeting. Mr. Rud’s strong academic profile includes education from Columbia Business School, Copenhagen Business School, IMD Switzerland, INSEAD, and Stanford. 

 

The session began with a focus on challenges facing multinational companies, such as strategic planning, collaboration between multicultural teams, and the challenges of effective communication. Mr. Rud said that, “Teams are not born, they are built”, while explaining the cascading effect of having the right people in the right jobs. He maintained that securing the right competencies was essential not only for future planning and growth, but also to provide stability and promote loyalty within a company. Furthermore, he also explained his personal strategy for hiring the right candidates; aligning job expectations, and focusing more on people and passion rather than KPIs.

 

During this session, participants learnt about experience based practice of leadership. Mr.Rud also discussed the personal skills , attitude, business skills ,communication and cooperation for effective leadership in the global work space. Following the talk, a question and answer session was held. A number of students from different schools, entrepreneurs from NIC, and an eleven-member delegation from MAN ES Pakistan participated in the session.
