As the National Outreach Programme (NOP) Summer Coaching Session deadline approaches our NOP Team maximised their efforts to reach out to as many students as possible and educate them about the scholarship. In lieu of the same, our team headed out to the arid, crisp landscape of Sindh. Within this trip, information sessions were conducted in 22 different colleges for more than 2300 students. The team visited the cities of Mirpur Mathelo, Mirpur Khas, Tando Adam Khan, Tando Muhammad Khan, Ghotki and Gambat along with Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
During the sessions, students were educated on the opportunities available at LUMS and were provided information on the NOP application process. Students from the fields of pre-Medical and pre-Engineering were particularly motivated to widen their horizons and pursue the vast variety of fields offered at educational institutions today. In certain sessions where Matric students were present, they were encouraged to work with additional fervour so that they may apply for the NOP Summer Coaching Session next year.
The Sindh visit was wonderfully supported by the Development of Human Resources (DOHR) Organisation, Sindh, that invited more than 300 students from various different colleges in neighbouring towns and villages, brought them together on one platform in Tando Muhammad Khan and also provided transport and refreshment facilities. A collaborative session on the NOP ensued where students also engaged in an interactive question and answer component. DOHR was thanked warmly for their efforts in supporting the awareness of Higher Education. Amidst the traditional Sindhi hospitality, the NOP team was also honoured with the Sindhi Ajrak and Topi and were requested to return to Sindh soon.
As always feedback was obtained from the various educators. Mumtaz Ali, Principal Evershine College, Gambat, thanked LUMS for the focus given to Sindh and Sindhi students. Dr. Saleem Raza, Principal Cadet College, Ghotki, praised the efforts of LUMS and requested that such motivational sessions should be conducted more frequently. Shireen Zaman, Counsellor Shireen Public School, Pir Jo Goth, specifically requested for a session on the NOP at her college and felt it would provide an amazing opportunity for students. Naseema Laghari, Senior Teacher Sona College, Mirpur Mathelo, narrated the story of her daughter recently securing admission in LUMS through the NOP this year and through her inspiring story, urged her students to apply for the programme as well.
