Government of Baluchistan and Pakistan Army arranged a week long Youth Mobilisation Campaign in July, 2016 to promote interprovincial harmony, relationship building and awareness about the province. The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), was amongst the selected universities chosen to participate in the campaign and explore Pakistan’s largest province and its institutions.
LUMS was represented by Mr. Mazhar Chinoy, Director Office of Student Affairs, Dr. Karrar Jaffar, Faculty Member and Mr. Ali Safdar Raja, Manager Fundraising along with numerous students from the university.
The initiative is regarded to have been a success as various universities from Punjab and Baluchistan had the chance to interact and share their visions for the future. Patronised by Chief Minister, Mr. Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri and Lt. General Aamer Riaz, Commander Southern Command, the provincial Ministry of Youth Affairs arranged tours around Quetta and Ziarat.
Representatives from LUMS also had the opportunity to interact with high Baluchistan Government officials such as the Chief Minister, Governor of Baluchistan and the army leadership in the province.
A welcome dinner was also hosted by Vice Chancellor, University of Baluchistan, along with an interactive session with parliamentarians at the Baluchistan Assembly. The representatives were then taken to visit the Command and Staff College. The Baluchistani goverment also distributed laptops to students from all over Pakistan.
Such initiatives were regarded by Baluchistan officials and LUMS representatives as necessary to raise not only awareness of cultural richness, but also to increase the feeling of unity and peace amongst one another. The National Outreach Programme (NOP) already has a strong presence in Baluchistan and will only continue expanding in coming years.
