The Summer School @LUMS, the first of its kind initiative at LUMS, came to a close on August 10, 2017. The end of the programme was marked with a remarkable closing ceremony.
With the parents of the participants in attendance, the atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and cheer. The participants were rather anxious to share a glimpse of what they had experienced with their parents, eagerly waiting for the ceremony to start. The sentiments of the participants the faculty and their peers were rather heart-warming as many of them had developed an attachment to LUMS, and they did not really want the Summer School to come to an end.
The ceremony was opened by the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Adeel Hashmi, who amused the crowd with his witty humour and congratulated the University and its management on its outstanding efforts to put together such a unique programme. He shared the challenges and the achievements of the programme and applauded them for delivering on the promise of giving the participants, an unforgettable summer.
The ceremony started with several short clips highlighting the happenings of the Summer School and better yet, the memories, both the participants and the team at LUMS, had shared together. The gathering was then addressed by the Vice Chancellor of LUMS, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi. Encouraging the students to explore their horizons, Dr. Naqvi said, "Summer School @LUMS has been a wonderful endeavour. We have learnt that we should never restrict ourselves and then we can do anything we set our hearts to. For example, you thought you couldn’t play the guitar but now you can!”
Following the VC`s address, the programme participants presented dance performances, skits and songs. The ceremony came to an end with the distribution of certificates to the participants.
The event was a success for the University, because it achieved the main goal of providing students aged 14-18, a platform, where they discovered their passion, polished their skills, and developed new ones. However, what they left with was a deep bond with the University, having learned so much and felt welcomed beyond measure.
