Sri Lankan Delegation Visits LUMS to Explore Collaborative Opportunities

A Sri Lankan delegation comprising of Sri Lankan Vice Chancellors, Deputy Vice Chancellors, Senior Officials of the University Grant Commission and Ministry of Higher Education visited LUMS on May 7, to enhance the academic and professional relationship between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The delegation was headed by Mr. Muhammad Shahid, Director Planning and Development, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. The visit kicked off with a brief presentation by Minhal Sheikh, Deputy Marketing Manager, Office of Advancement, about LUMS, its five Schools, the brilliant faculty, campus life and all research and extra-curricular facilities.

Vice Chancellor LUMS, Dr. Arshad Ahmad addressed the guests highlighting how LUMS’ vision of excellent quality transdisciplinary education is a global one and talked about possible academic collaborations between Pakistani and Sri Lankan students. Dr. Shahid Masud, Dean Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Dr. Kamran Asdar, Dean Mushtaq Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), and Dr. Bushra Naqvi, Assistant Professor, Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), represented their schools and further explained the various research activities undertaken by students and faculty. Future faculty research collaborations were also discussed.

During the campus tour arranged for the guests, they were taken to the Physics Department at SBASSE where Dr. Sabieh Anwar, Associate Professor Physics showed them the various labs and facilities of the School. The guests were also taken to the National Incubation Centre (NIC) where Faisal Jalil Sherjan, Director NIC, welcomed them and gave an overview about the Centre.

Throughout their interaction with Dr. Ahmad and the faculty, all the members of the delegation expressed a lot of interest in the scope of the work being done at LUMS. They appreciated the University’s efforts in arranging their visit and invited LUMS to organise open days in Sri Lanka and also participate in the annual educational expos in the country.
