Saba Irum and Burhan ul Haq, PhD Scholars at Mathematics Department, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)  attended  the Summer School  "Hands-on Research in Complex Systems Schools" held on July 16-27, 2018 at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), in Trieste, Italy. This activity was a whole new experience that guided the students towards the multiple dimensions related to their research area and for introducing them with the modern research trends. The School has mainly two types of activities:

The first set of activities includes laboratory experiments in the fields of biological physics, soft matter physics-dynamic light scattering, turbulence - flow analysis by imaging particles, machine learning in table-top experiments, chemical patterns.

The second set includes computer data acquisition in life sciences, such as interfacial fracture of particle rafts, microfluidics, granular materials, modeling in MATLAB - molecular dynamics, cardiac dynamics and computational modeling.

Additionally, the participants presented their own research in talks and posters. The eminent faculty from different universities of United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and United States of America conducted lectures on "Professional Development of Improved Scientific Communication." Snapshots, abstract writing, research paper writing techniques, talks and posters were covered in the professional development.

The selection of our scholars among the young scientists in the fields of Mathematics and Physics is a proud moment for the School and University. Department of Mathematics, SBASSE is supporting students in all respect for pursuing research and wish them a bright future.
