Thursday, September 6, 2018

Dr. Muhammad Tariq, Associate Professor, Department of Biology at Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), LUMS presented his latest research work at Babraham Institute on August 17, 2018 in Cambridge, UK.

As an invited speaker for Campus Seminars at Babraham Institute, Dr. Tariq talked about findings of a reverse genetics screen in Fruit Flies and novel factors they have identified,  which are involved in the maintenance of epigenetic cell memory. Different group leaders, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students attending this seminar, appreciated the establishment of such an advanced and cutting edge research area in Pakistan.

It is pertinent to mention that all this work is the result of the last nine-years of hard work by the Epigenetics Group established by Dr. Tariq at the Biology Department, LUMS. After the seminar, Dr. Tariq met individual group leaders and postdoctoral fellows working in the field of epigenetics and explored chances of potential collaborations. At the day-long visit to Babraham, Dr. Tariq also introduced the vision of the Biology Department at LUMS which is emerging as a hub of an interdisciplinary life sciences basic research in Pakistan and aspires to have a global impact.
