SBASSE Announces Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Tuesday, March 14, 2017

Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), LUMS invites applications for an exciting opportunity to contribute as Postdoctoral Research Fellows. SBASSE is a vibrant education and research platform with the vision of pursuing no-boundary multidisciplinary research and education in key areas of local and global relevance. With its state-of- the art research infrastructure, SBASSE is emerging as one of the leading academic and research institutes in Pakistan.

The announced positions are available in the research group of Dr. Basit Yameen, which is located in the Department of Chemistry of SBASSE. Dr. Yameen’s research activities are focused on design and development of new materials for addressing a range of key local and global challenges. The available postdoctoral positions offer an excellent opportunity for successful candidates to apply organic material design and development, and nanotechnology approaches for uncovering the structure and conformation of protein ion channels present on neurons. The project is expected to advance our knowledge of relationship between conformation of protein ion channels and their function, which will lay a strong foundation for discovering strategies for hindering the progression of nervous system related disorders that stem from the malfunctioning of protein ion channels. The project team includes collaborators from leading institutions from UK and Sweden. The potential candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Chemistry or related fields from a reputable institution and should have knowledge and experience of any or combination of the followings: (i) nanoparticles synthesis, characterization and surface functionalization, (ii) design and synthesis of small molecules, oligomers and polymers based ligands for functionalization of nanoparticles (metal or oxide based), (iii) synthesis and characterization of polymers with defined end or pendant groups, (iv) click chemistry strategies, and (v) synthetic chemistry.

Interested candidates are request to submit their detailed CV (including a list of publications) with a cover letter via email to basit.yameen@lums.edu.pk. The cover letter should clearly describe skills that make you suitable for the advertised positions.
