A memorial service was held in the loving memory of Taimur Akhtar (BA-LLB, 2014) on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Moot Court at the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SASHOL). Family members, fellow students, professional colleagues and the LUMS faculty gathered to remember the achievements of this brilliant student. This highly intellectual vibrant and spirited soul brought tears to everyone’s eyes.
Prof. Dr. Martin W. Lau, Dean of SASHOL; Assistant Professor Uzair Kiyani, Department of Law and Policy; Mr. Jawad Hassan, Advocate Supreme Court, Senior Partner, Hassan, Qureshi, and Mamdot (HQM), also the nephew of Dr. Pervaiz Hassan; and Hafiz Farhat, General Secretary Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf were the prominent personalities present at the memorial.
The ceremony began with a speech by Taimur’s friend Anum Zahoor Butt who shared some unforgettable memories followed by a wonderful presentation which summed up Taimur’s life in pictures.
Dr. Martin W. Lau shared his heartfelt condolences with Taimur’s family. Assistant Professor, Uzair Kiyani explained the friendly association he had with Taimur. He said he was honoured to have had the pleasure of working with and teaching brilliant minds like Taimur.
Mr. Jawad Hassan guided Taimur throughout his professional carrier at HQM Law Firm and he was thankful to LUMS for providing such a talented mind. Within a very short span of time Taimur excelled in both the corporate and the political sectors in Pakistan. His farsightedness and sheer hard work led him to overcome all the challenges that came his way.
Umair Saleem and Ali Rahman, two of Taimur’s closest friends shared a few cherished memories of the time they spent with him at LUMS. They added that LUMS was his second home and he overcame his fear of public speaking here.
Last but not the least, Taimur’s parents shared their feelings regarding the loss of their eldest son. It was quite clear that Taimur was an epitome of wonderful ethics, incredible intellect and that his death was indeed a great loss for humanity. The ceremony ended with Taimur’s parents thanking the LUMS community for honouring their son and for their overwhelming support during such pressing times.
