The Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC) at LUMS conducted a programme on Problem Solving and Decision Making from March 5 - 8, 2019. The objective of the four-day immersive programme was to provide executives with an unparalleled opportunity to acquire skills and techniques essential for making high-quality decisions and solving problems effectively. The Programme emphasised the importance of critical problem analysis, synthesis, and positive inquiry to address organisational problems and learning how to reframe complex business decisions.

Programme Directors, Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Sadiq Jajja and Dr. Raza Ali Rafique led the Programme and were supported in teaching by Dr. Zainab Riaz and Dr. Jamshed H. Khan. The Programme provided exposure on how to apply appropriate problem-solving and decision-making processes and tools, evaluate solutions and anticipate risks. Participation from around 30 well-known organisations from all industry sectors and business backgrounds enriched the learning experience.

Real-time scenarios through a simulation as well as problem-solving game theory models added an exciting element to the experience and brought together participants’ creative skills to the test as they tackled a critical challenge facing the company. The interactive style helped them understand the process of effective decision-making and ensured that they got the opportunity to apply those concepts in their workplaces. The Programme also featured innovative sessions on even swaps, data-driven decisions, decision trees, the impact of leadership on decision-making, and problem-solving tools. The Programme was highly appreciated by the participants who were very impressed with the environment and facilities provided at REDC and enjoyed the session conducted by the highly qualified faculty.

Taha Shahid Rao from FFBL Power Company Limited said that it was a “Thought provoking and mind stimulating programme, touching real-life untapped decision-making scenarios and was relevant to all professional networks.” In addition to that, Aatif Khan from S&P Global also expressed his views about the programme saying that “The programme offers great content in a practical and experiential learning environment.
