REDC Conducts Programme on Enhancing Board Effectiveness

The Rausing Executuve Development Centre (REDC) successfully conducted the 2nd offering of its flagship modular ‘Directors Training Programme’ in April 2019. Led by Programme Directors, Mr. Khalid A. Mirza, Dr. Anwar Khurshid and supported in teaching by Dr. Syed Mubashir Ali and Dr. Muhammad Shafique, the 4-day programme was designed to familiarise participants with essential skills that top-tier executives need related to governance, finance, strategy and risk.

By exploring practical frameworks, the programme exposed participants to corporate governance best practices and the most recent research on top performing boards, helping them identify their board’s route to success, as well as effective structures and processes.

Fulfilling the criteria specified for the ‘Directors Training Programme’ under the Code of Corporate Governance, the programme is also endorsed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).

Incorporating a blend of real-life case studies, experiential learning exercises, local success stories and interactive discussions, the programme comprehensively explored a broad variety of areas. Discussions included, board-specific strategies to mitigate risk and maximise opportunities, contours of corporate governance, code of corporate governance in Pakistan, boardroom behaviour and governance, executive compensation, governance failures, board’s composition, its roles & responsibilities, understanding of financial statements and shareholder value, organisational governance, paradigm shift in corporate governance parameters as well as governance parameters.                                             

Top to mid-tier executives from over 27 organisations, from varying industries participated in the programme, including Banking/Financial institutions, construction companies, educational institutes, Government and Oil & Gas companies etc., providing valuable opportunities for networking.

“Overall, this programme was so comprehensive under the regime of corporate governance rules, regulation and legal framework of SECP. Hence, it was a highly remarkable four-day learning session,” said Afifa Jabeen, Director Legal, Punjab, Punjab Power Board.
