The Pakistan State Oil Company (PSO) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Trust visited LUMS on October 17, 2019 and pledged PKR 10 million to the University to support 10 National Outreach Programme (NOP) scholars. The NOP is a prestigious scholarship at LUMS offered to academically exceptional, underprivileged students from across Pakistan.
At the ceremony, PSO representatives included Ms. Tara Uzra Dawood, Member of the PSO Board of Management, Mr. Shahzad Safdar, Trustee PSO CSR Trust and Ms. Aisha Rashid, Senior Executive Corporate Communications.
Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director Office of Advancement, Dr. Naveed Arshad, Associate Professor Department of Computer Science, members from the Office of Advancement team, along with beneficiaries of the PSO Scholarship were also present at the ceremony on behalf of LUMS.
After a short, interactive, session with the students, Ms. Dawood said, “At PSO, we believe that access to education can positively change the lives of individuals and their families. As such, education has the potential to transform the future of our country. I feel privileged to be present at the signing ceremony between the country’s two leading organisations. This initiative, along with the NOP at LUMS, will go a long way in the lives of the beneficiary students and their families.”
Dr. Ahmad said, “LUMS derives its strength from diversity represented by students from hundreds of villages, towns and cities across Pakistan. Constant support from PSO has been key in supporting the dreams and aspirations of the next generation of leaders.”
The PSO CSR Trust is the philanthropic arm of Pakistan State Oil Company and is working to bridge the social divide between the privileged and the underprivileged.
