As the rainy season kicks in, LUMS National Outreach Programme (NOP) representatives set out to visit the historic city of Multan from January 14-19, 2019. The team also visited the surrounding areas of Multan, namely, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh and Fazilpur. They conducted comprehensive information sessions in over 15 colleges reaching out to more than 1100 students.

During the presentations, attendees were given an overview of LUMS and an introduction to the NOP Scholarship. Furthermore, they were given instructions on how they can apply to the Programme. Within the detailed Q&A sessions that followed, students asked about the programmes offered at LUMS, the benefits of the NOP and the intricacies of the NOP Online Application. Moreover, NOP representatives thoroughly appreciated the hospitality of the institutions they visited and the disciplined, conscientious attitude of the attendees. It was heartening to see that despite certain schools and colleges not having major classroom facilities, the passion and zest for learning was deeply prevalent in the resident student population.

Obtaining feedback from educators is always an important aspect of the visit as it informs the NOP’s future Outreach endeavours. Muhammad Akram, Principal Daanish School, Rajanpur praised the readiness and dedication with which LUMS reached out to his city and students. Ms. Sidra Abbas, Deputy Head at Punjab Daanish School, Dera Ghazi Khan echoed similar sentiments and added that the strong financial aid programme at LUMS is a testament to the university’s commitment to the higher education of talented students regardless of their financial background. Ghulam Murtaza, Vice Principal Sardar K. Khan Higher Secondary School, Muzaffargarh expressed his pleasure at the sessions conducted and said they were extremely interactive, informative and beneficial to his students.

The success of the NOP team’s Outreach efforts in Southern Punjab is sure to attract promising applications for the NOP Summer Coaching Session 2019 from the region.
