Famous across the country for being one of the largest textile industrial zones in Pakistan, the National Outreach Programme (NOP) Team headed to the vibrant city of Faisalabad in order to search for talented students who could be made aware of the LUMS NOP. In addition to Faisalabad, the team also visited the cities of Jhang, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Chenab Nagar and Toba Tek Singh. Within this trip information sessions on the NOP were given in 14 different colleges to more than 1050 students.
With the presentations, students were informed about the NOP scholarship and the various programmes offered at LUMS. A detailed overview was given on the NOP Summer Coaching Session application as well. An interesting aspect was the interest shown by students regarding research in various disciplines and students were walked through the various successful case studies and researches conducted by LUMS faculty and students.
An extremely wonderful aspect of this Outreach visit was the session conducted at the Gurduwara in Nankana Sahib. The religious preachers were exceptionally welcoming and allowed NOP representatives to speak to the temple attendees once their prayers had completed. The students and parents present spoke highly of the session and commended the efforts of LUMS to reach out to minorities in the country.
When obtaining feedback from educators within the region it was great to see the enthusiasm being displayed. Not only were school/college management keen in facilitating sessions but vowed to urge their students to apply. Syed Athar Babar, Senior Lecturer at KIPS Faisalabad stated that the NOP scholarship would be one of the best opportunities for his students. Ms. Fatima Umber, Branch Head at Pak Garrison College, Nankana Sahib praised the informative details given during the session. Ms. Aasifa, Senior Lecturer at the Nusrat Jahan College for Gils, Chenab Nagar applauded the motivational session given stating that it would definitely encourage more female students to apply.
After such a successful Outreach visit, the NOP team hopes to receive a diverse set of applications from Faisalabad and its surrounding areas.
