The Office of Alumni Relations in collaboration with the UAE Alumni Chapter hosted a grand alumni reunion on Friday, November 2, 2018 in Dubai. The main attraction of the event was that it was held on an outdoor deck cruise that livened up the gathering. Over 100 alumni accompanied by their spouses and children were present at the occasion. Participants enjoyed a delectable sit-down dinner on the cruise and stunning views of the Downtown, Business Bay and Dubai Canal.
Mudassir Sheikh, BSc 2007, Vice President, Abu Dhabi Region of the chapter, hosted the event and warmly welcomed the alumni and their families. He invited Chapter President, Shahzad Bashir, MBA 1998, to address the alumni. Bashir briefed the alumni about the responsibility of the chapter and formally introduced the newly elected Vice President, Dubai and Northern Emirates, Usman Alvi, MBA 2012.
Dr. Jamshed Khan, Professor Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) was also present on the occasion. He apprised the participants of the academic achievements LUMS has accomplished recently. While doing so, he lauded the UAE Chapter for their efforts in organising the wonderful event.
LUMS Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad could not make it to the reunion. However, he introduced himself through a warm and welcoming video message. Dr. Ahmad thanked Dr. Khan for being there on his behalf, the Alumni Relations team that supported this event and the Chapter members Shahzad Bashir, Usman Alvi, Mudassir Sheikh and all others who made the get-together successful. During his address Dr. Ahmad said that LUMS feels immense pride in the accomplishment of its alumni in various fields. He expressed that alumni should be proud of their university for being ranked among the top 100 Universities in Asia because of its research and diversity of excellent programmes offered through the various Schools at LUMS.
He went on to mention the societal challenges and ways to counter them through education. Adding that LUMS needs to take steps to serve as a model for policy research and practice, Dr. Ahmad invited the alumni to be a part of the endeavour to make LUMS a global powerhouse of knowledge.
He concluded his speech by thanking everyone for their contributions to LUMS. He stated that LUMS has always been proud of its alumni's ethical and professional leadership qualities which they have demonstrated in the organisations they are holding key positions in. The Vice Chancellor expressed his gratitude for the generosity shown by alumni to strengthen LUMS as an institution.
Later, alumni helped themselves to Karak Chai arranged by one of the senior chapter members, Abdul Ghafoor, MBA 1989, and enjoyed both the lovely traditional Tanoura Dance and a musical performance by an Iranian singer, all the while networking with their fellow alumni and their much loved faculty members.
The Alumni Relations Office appreciates chapter members, Shahzad Bashir, Mudassir Sheikh, Usman Alvi, Abdul Ghafoor, Zaheer Khan, Saniya Bhutta and Bashir Khawaja for their continued support to make this event a success.
