Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) officially welcomed the 2017 batch of National Outreach Programme (NOP) Summer Coaching Sessions applicants on July 14, 2017. Approximately 621 shortlisted applicants from across the country assembled in the University’s academic block, where they were formally inducted through a streamlined process and briefed about the activities planned for the sessions.
While the NOP administration welcomed the students and gave an overview on the vision behind the LUMS NOP, it was strongly reiterated that a disciplined perseverance was required at their end to make the most of the opportunity to enhance their personalities and prepare them for a competitive life. Great enthusiasm was evident in the young boys and girls as they asked pertinent and intelligent questions during the orientation session.
This 15-day Summer Coaching Session, is an intense and extensive academic focused programme which also covers life coaching classes as well as motivational sessions. Planned to end on July 28, 2017, it aims to strongly focus on the academic development of the inducted students. The sessions also rigorously train students to take the SAT 1 and 2 tests. The students will get to know first-hand what LUMS has to offer through faculty interactions, tutorials, presentation skills, and critical thinking sessions. Additionally, these sessions will also feature a host of extra-curricular activities such as sports day, musical and drama nights.
One of the unique features of the LUMS National Outreach Programme is that the pool of applicants are high-achievers coming together from all parts of Pakistan. Thus, a sense of nationalism strongly runs through this entire programme. These applicants are particularly from remote parts of the country, and from the most economically constrained households. These students have been invited from all over Pakistan, including Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Loralai, Zhob, Ziarat, Pishin, Gilgit, Astore, Bagh, Mardan, Khushab, Karachi, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Jhang and Shigar.
In the past, LUMS NOP scholars have proved their mettle at LUMS. The performance of the NOP scholars has been extremely encouraging as most have done exceptionally well both academically and in extracurricular activities, which reflects their ambitious drive. Of the 900+ NOP scholars inducted to date, 400+ have graduated and 23+ have been awarded the Fulbright scholarships.
The NOP was launched in 2001, to extend the benefits of world-class education to talented students all over Pakistan. This prestigious scholarship programme focuses on identifying bright students with exceptional Matriculation and FA/FSc results and inducting them into the LUMS Undergraduate Programmes. Lahore University of Management Sciences’ vision behind this programme is to brighten up these students’ career prospects and put them on track for securing a better future for themselves and their families.
