Two students from the Department of Economics, Mushtaq Ahamd Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), LUMS, Alyshan Parvez and Mohammad Mansoor have won the 2nd Runner -up position in the Regional Finale for PepsiCo Change the Game Challenge 2018 and have secured the 2nd position nationally as well.
Change The Game (CTG) is a 5 stage challenge open to individuals with undergraduate and postgraduate backgrounds and working professionals with up to 2 years’ experience, who are keen to make their mark globally. The main objective of the challenge is to address real issues and spot the brightest spark of talent and make their ideas come to life.
This year, the challenge was to come up with an innovative idea and technology which could solve the problem of plastic wastage and encourage more recycling. Two students, Alyshan Parvez and Mansoor, from LUMS were shortlisted from a rigorous idea-screening process to represent not just LUMS but Lahore as well. Their team was given an opportunity to present their idea at PepsiCo Head office in Lahore, along with other 14 teams from all over Pakistan. This team from LUMS made it to the top 7 regionally and then competed with other teams from the Asia Pacific Region. Other teams who were part of the competition were from Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad, and NUST Karachi. LUMS students first made it to top 15 and then to top 7 to compete with the international teams.
LUMS students were appreciated and given the certificates by Shafaq Javed, HRD PepsiCo PAK CU and Furqan Ahmed Syed, GM Pakistan and Afghanistan CU during the award ceremony.
