Every year Kinnaird College for Women University hosts a British-Parliamentary Style Debating Championship, which invites one of the city's best adjudicators and speaking teams. This year, around fifty teams took part in the English and Urdu Category in the competition.
The Debating and Recitation Society at LUMS (DRUMS) sent two teams to compete at this prestigious competition, one for the English and the other for the Urdu category. The English team, 'LUMS A' won the competition and was undefeated throughout. Zaid Abro (Economics Sophomore) and Talha Wani (Economics Junior) were ranked as the top two speakers at the event. A brilliant performance by the two speakers led them to win the Championship trophy.
Their commitment to DRUMS and debating in general since their freshmen years is highly commendable and the Society values it greatly. This is the second time in two years that DRUMS has successfully won this Championship. Wani and Abro shared that they find themselves greatly influenced by the competitive thrill of debating and this pushes them to do better. Their time at LUMS has helped them grow as debaters and good students. Moreover, the wide variety of courses that they have been able to take, beyond their selected majors is one of the many factors that inevitably and significantly helped them bag first position at the competition.
DRUMS continues to push for greater turn-out for people interested in public speaking by hosting four weekly open-for-all training camps and students are who are interested are welcome to join. DRUMS also, often has members of other institutions who come in to observe occasionally.
