LUMS students continue to make the University proud.  Shah Meer Ishaq, a student at the Suleman Dawood School of Business, recently represented LUMS and Pakistan at the Harvard College Project for Asian and International Relations (HPAIR) Conference in Kazakhstan from August 16 – 20, 2019. Over the course of five days, participants engaged in dialogue and formed new connections. Mr. Ishaq was also named the winner of the Impact Challenge competition at the conference, where participants had to solve real life management consultancy cases within a given timeframe.

HPAIR is a forum that was formed to allow students and young professionals to discuss and learn more about the important economic, political and social issues in Asia. HPAIR has organised 43 conferences in 12 different countries since 1991. This year’s conference was held at Nazarbayev University in Nur-Sultan – the capital city of Kazakhstan.

Featuring 500 delegates from across 60 countries, the conference gave participants the opportunity to attend seminars and panels regarding global markets and the economy, particularly relating to Asian and international relations. Mr. Ishaq was able to discuss these important issues with leaders of today and tomorrow from across the globe and come up with innovative solutions to real life problems.

The Impact Challenge competition was one of the most exciting components of the conference, where delegates were required to solve cases provided by leading companies in Central Asia that sponsored and partnered with HPAIR. Winners were selected by representatives from these companies.

Speaking about his experience at the conference, Mr. Ishaq said, “It offered me a chance to network with the best and brightest university students and young scholars from across the globe, and learn from the many inspirational and thought-provoking speakers. Winning at an international forum was a privilege and I am humbled to have been a part of such an amazing conference.”
