The dynamic team of Ain Foundation, comprising 7 LUMS students, has shifted the focus of their philanthropic organisation to helping those who are affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.
Ain Foundation primarily works to establish libraries for the underprivileged students at different institutes. After the lockdown, they immediately decided to provide food items to those who were out of work by starting ration distribution and COVID-19 awareness drives. So far, they have conducted 3 drives, covering 100 daily wage families in Lahore and 70 in Gujranwala.
Team members of Ain Foundation include Abdullah Shahzad (Team Leader, CEO), Muneeb Sohail, Muhammad Uzair Butt, Noverah Khan, Amal Tanveer, Muhammad Sardar bin Naeem and Muhammad Zain. Apart from ration drives, they also distribute hand sanitizers and awareness pamphlets in Urdu that contain precautionary measures, emergency contacts and illustrative information on the Coronavirus.
Each ration bag has the following items: flour, rice, sugar, oil, 3 kinds of pulses, salt, soaps, spices, matchboxes, tea, detergent, hand sanitizers, and an Urdu pamphlet for awareness. This ration bag can last for around 3 weeks.
Zain explained that the Foundation is primarily focusing on daily wage labourers. “This is because they have been out of work for quite a while and do not have any alternate source of earning to make ends meet. They are the most vulnerable section of the society in the current situation. In our future drives we will also be targeting the transgender community and the visually impaired students at Farrukh Blind Association, Lahore,” he shared.
The Foundation also plans to conduct a ration distribution drive during Ramzan in Islamabad and Multan for which preparations are already underway.
