The LUMS School of Education (SOE) team conducted an information session in Hyderabad on February 18, 2018 for the MPhil Education Leadership and Management programme, which included a free GRE preparatory workshop for prospective applicants.
The session, which attracted people from all over Hyderabad, began with the GRE preparatory workshop, conducted in two phases. It started with the instructor, Mr. Fahim Abbasi explaining the process through which one could apply for the GRE. He elaborated on the various sections of the test, and shared tips and tricks on how to manage time during the test. He also advised students on how to smartly attempt the Mathematics section of the GRE, particularly topics like quantitative reasoning. The attendees were engaged throughout the session, actively participating in the discussion as the instructor posed questions at the end of every section.
The information session on the SOE MPhil Education Leadership and Management programme was conducted by members of the LUMS SOE faculty and administration, Dr. Mariam Chughtai, Associate Dean and Nuzhat Kamran, Director Marketing and Admissions.
The information session included a presentation by Dr. Chughtai on the salient features of the MPhil programme, which elaborated upon how the graduates of this programme will be able to lead education reform in Pakistan. Dr. Chughtai discussed the current problems in Pakistan’s education sector, in terms of the quality of education, accessibility, governance etc. and highlighted how SOE is aiming towards bringing educational reforms in these areas. She also spoke about SOE’s collaborations with public and private organisations.
The audience actively engaged with the SOE team at the conclusion of the information session, asking them questions regarding the MPhil programme and the career prospects that SOE graduates will have in the education sector. The audience continued presenting their queries to the SOE team after the session, while volunteers helped participants create their MPhil admission accounts on the LUMS website.
