Mr. Hafiz Muhammad Noman Amin, Lab Engineer at the Central Laboratory of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), was selected to participate in the '7th International Workshop on Applications of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (IWANN 2017).' The workshop was organised at Bilkent University’s National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), Ankara, Turkey, from July 3 – 14, 2017.
The workshop’s theme was “Energy for Future” and consisted of a series of seminars and hands-on laboratory sessions related to nanomaterial's growth and synthesis. Mr. Amin was trained on the fundamentals of top-down and bottom-up nanoscale materials growth and synthesis, cleanroom-based micro/nano-scale device fabrication process design and optimisation and process specific equipment training. UNAM hosts 62 laboratory areas including a 400 m2 state-of-the-art class 100 and 1000 cleanroom facility with micro and nanofabrication equipment including thin film deposition systems, plasma etching tools, high-temperature furnaces, lithography equipment, post-processing tools, and electrical/optical characterisation facilities.
The workshop brought together a total of 30 participants; 25 were selected from the developing countries and transition economies shortlisted by TIKA and UNIDO collaboratively and 5 were from the host country, Turkey. This was a unique learning experience for Mr. Amin who is working on the development of a device fabrication facility at LUMS. All expenses of the visit including airfare, accommodation, boarding and lodging were borne by the workshop organisers.
