The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) is the number 1 university in Pakistan and 111th in Asia, according to a new ranking from the QS University Rankings 2016. It is a momentous improvement for LUMS, which has jumped 50 ranks from the previous years; it was at 161 position in 2015, 181 in 2014, between 191 – 200 in 2013 and 251 – 300 in 2012.

Congratulating the LUMS community on this accomplishment, the LUMS Rector, Abdul Razak Dawood said, “This is indeed a great achievement. Finally we are being recognised for all the efforts we have put in over the years. I wish to congratulate the LUMS VC, the Deans and all members of the faculty and staff for this achievement. Consistency and sustained effort over the years does pay.”

Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Vice Chancellor, LUMS also shared his thoughts with the LUMS community and said, “This ranking is a recognition of the stewardship of the LUMS board and effort over multiple decades put in by the eminent faculty and staff of LUMS who have always focused on quality, taking the road less travelled in their pursuit of excellence. It is, of course, also a recognition of the preeminent graduates of LUMS who have achieved great success all over the world in their varied endeavours. Our ambitions will, however, not allow us to rest on our laurels and I look forward to your continued support as we set our targets on being counted among the premier institutions of higher learning in Asia and the world.”

Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings are one of most prestigious and recognised international university rankings in the world. This years’ rankings included the region’s 350 best universities. The rankings take into account performance indicators such as Academic Reputation; Employer Reputation; Faculty-Student Ratio; Citations per Faculty; Papers per Faculty; Staff with PhD; Proportion of International Faculty; Proportion of International Students; Proportion of Inbound Exchange Students and Proportion of Outbound Exchange Students.

The QS rating system makes it easier for students to locate top universities in particular regions, countries or disciplines. These rankings are also useful for organisations choosing partners and for scholarship providers selecting top ranked universities for sponsorships.
