The Centre for Business and Society (CBS) at LUMS and The Citizens Foundation (TCF), a non-profit organisation dedicated to educating the less privileged, came together to sign a Memorandum of Understanding on September 4, 2019.

The MoU will facilitate TCF alumni in seeking admissions to undergraduate programmes in Pakistan and abroad. It was signed by Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS; Dr. Alnoor Bhimani, Honourary Dean Suleman Dawood School of Business; Riaz Kamlani, Executive Vice President TCF and Dr. Zehra Waheed, Director CBS. The ceremony was attended by the management of both the organisations.

The Centre for Business and Society was created to engender action, education, engagement and research within a new order of business and societal priorities. Through education, research, and experiential learning at the grassroots level, CBS works with the broader community to develop novel and innovative solutions to complex social problems and inculcates a strong commitment to social responsibility in its graduates. This collaboration with The Citizens Foundation will allow CBS to contribute to development in education.

The two entities will partner to facilitate the admission of meritorious TCF alumni in tertiary institutions, as currently only 23% of TCF alumni are able to secure such admissions, through the Alumni Development Programme. This is an on-field teaching initiative to help TCF students get admission to the best undergraduate programmes both locally and internationally.

The partnership also entails setting up ‘CBS Ambassadors for Change’, a team of student volunteers at LUMS, who will conduct information sessions and preparatory classes to prepare TCF alumni for universities.

Speaking about the partnership, Mr. Kamlani said, “Through collaborations like these, TCF alumni can have great exposure and can build a better future for themselves. Only by working together, we can resolve the educational crisis. I would like to thank LUMS for joining hands with us and furthering our mission to educate the children of Pakistan.”

Dr. Bhimani echoed similar sentiments and said, “The TCF-CBS partnership opens up educational possibilities to those who lack access. This allows for the cultivation of a learning environment where all key players not only benefit from each other, but also help each other grow in unprecedented ways.”
